...I have to say that, during the period when I was playing drums i made part of a band that interpreted the pieces of Genesis, King Crimson and Yes. ... It’s the same moment when I exchanged my drums for a minimoog… well… for a small mixer and multi-track recorder, so that to be able to compose. ... This discovery opened up my eyes and ears towards all traditional music belonging to the Eastern European folks, popular vocal pieces but also touching instrumental sonorities like those ones of the Pan-flute, zither or cymbalom. Back to the last year: i made several trips in Romania, a country where i felt like home from the first moment. ...Mais remontons un peu dans le temps... il y plusieurs années lorsque j’étais adolescent, ma période mélomane si l'on peu dire. J’étais magnétisé par toute les musiques alternative…Brian Eno, Kraftwerk, Steve Reich, Pink Floyd et j'en passe… faut dire qu’a l’époque je pratiquais la batterie et j’oeuvrais au sein d’un band qui interprétaient les musiques de Génésis, King Crimson et Yes. ...C’est a ce même moment que j’ai échangé ma batterie contre un minimoog… he he… enfin avec un petit mixer et un enregistreur multipiste je me suis mis a la composition. Sous le nom de Janitor’s Animated j’ai composé pour du ballet et du théâtre et par la suite des trames sonores pour le cinéma. Cela se passe au début des années 90 et la j’entend une musique qui me bouleversa…c’étais le Mystère des voix Bulgares…oh qu’ils ont touché mon cœur et du même coup je me suis passionné pour toute les musiques originaires de l’est de l’europe… surtout les chants, mais aussi les instrument étranges aux sonorité envoûtante comme le ney , le zither et le cymbalom pour ne nommé que ceux la. ...J’ai effectué mon premier de 4 voyages en Roumanie au mois de Décembre 2007 et je m’y suis senti chez moi… un coup de foudre.

We are very proud to present you a full remixed album of the "a turning one" album. 2 teasers are available here for curious listeners. Very nice teasers created by Japh. A remix is an alternative version of a song, different from the original version. A remixer uses audio mixing to compose an alternate master recording of a song, adding or subtracting elements, or simply changing the equalization, dynamics, pitch, tempo, playing time, or almost any other aspect of the various musical components. Some remixes involve substantial changes to the arrangement of a recorded work, but many are subtle, such as creating a "vocal up" version of an album cut that emphasizes the lead singer's voice. I think three or four weeks ago , when i found Rothko music , even before i got amazed by their music , i got incredibly mind blown by their videos , i trace the artist and it was , it was bit confusing , so much information surrounding one name only ! A Canadian artist by the name of Building Castles out of Matchsticks that was both photographer and videographer , it made sense after a while , it was all the same person , don’t need to say that i was quite happy , absolutely love to meet people like Anne , passionate about their work and so open talking about herself to someone who never meet before , i guess i consider myself a very lucky guy. ...There is a definite evolution in my music, me starting from noise improv and ambient compositions moving to a more organized and instrumental electronic sound to quiet whispers and singing to the weirdo pop songs which I am doing now….the songs get more clear as time goes on……the one thing that is consistent is the fact that all the songs are stories and recollections of things that have happened to me. ...Its like I’ve been walking on a dirt road for years and years and it only went one way and there was never any left or right or ways to turn back. ...I have worked with many musicians in the past, either in improvised settings or in recordings or band appearances or as a vocalist or a film maker and I feel that each and other one of these people have left a mark on me. ...Anne ( Yes but that would mean I would have to cut a segment of every photograph I have ever taken and paste them all on a huge sheet of paper into a collage so they are all one. ...The one thing that he said to me was "you know Anne, being who you are you are never going to get anywhere in life." ...I’ve been recording music for a long time but it is only recently that I have focused on photography or film. ...As for the media and how they see me, well I’m often off wandering around or working away somewhere or driving on some country roads so I’m not really sure how they see me or even if they are looking. ... I have also had mean words typed here and there, making fun and saying I spend way too much time in la la land….but I will try not to mention that, cause those things are never kind to see. ...Anne ( At the moment my favorite album is a mix CD I make that I replace at least once a week with different songs each time becoming the new favorite with each and every new CD.

Cette annonce démontre à quel point la maison de disque poursuit son développement dans le monde de la musique indépendante. La nouvelle compilation Vol.2 qui comprendra en autre les groupes Clogs, Efterklang et lali puna, ainsi que l'ascension du groupe The Banjo Consorsium et Temjiin sont certes les 3 agents initiateurs de cette augmentation de la demande sur le marché américain. Galano definitely falls into our type and style of musical talent that we're always searching for. After years of musical research Galano felt the urge to draw a conclusion therefore, he started working on a series of tracks which represent the core and essence of "When The Clouds". ...Through his compositions, Francesco succeeded at creating his own ideal soundtrack married to images which are most dear to him. These include vivid green and grey landscapes of his own country as well as of all the faint delicate colors of his memory. "When The Clouds" is a solo project by Galano conceived in 2006. He produced his compositions in his recording studio with the aid of his own instruments as well as complimenting them with articulate and delicate electronic textures. I think it have saved us from a lot of trouble and pain. ef is a huge part of our lives, and we sacrifice so much for it. ...We haven’t really been able to figure everything out and learn all the paper work and stuff like that, but we’re learning by doing. Maybe ef will become “too big” for And the Sound Records, and then we’ll have to find someone else to do it for us.  ...We’ve been in contact Temjin and the If and they both says they are delighted, so… I guess ef will as well. ...And I don’t think any of the members of ef are using any of those sites personally for buying music. ...If not for the music (that you probably have as mp3s already) then do it for the artwork and for supporting the musicians that are tearing their hearts out to get it through to you. ...If you had one song to propose to someone who would like to discover your music, which one will you choose from "Give me beauty… Or give me death!"?  ...I think it will be more focused; all songs really feel more like a “unit” and forms a really solid album. “Give me beauty…” was more of a compilation with songs we’ve created together during 3 years of time. ...I rather want people to experience us with both eyes and ears – instead of just ears. ef isn’t trying to be the same band in the studio as on stage. ...Thanks Niklas for your time, this is a great opportunity for us and our fans to learn and share a little more about EF.

en nomination au GAMIQ (Gala de l’Alternative Musicale Indépendante du Québec) Sherbrooke, le mercredi 18 juillet 2007 – Après un spectacle devant une salle comble lors du OFF Fête du Lac 2007, le groupe sherbrookois The Banjo Consorsium est très fier d’annoncer sa nomination au GAMIQ, le Gala de l’Alternative Musicale Indépendante du Québec, dans la prestigieuse catégorie « Meilleur album expérimental » pour son album A Turning One. Par cette nomination, le nom du Banjo Consorsium se retrouve aux côtés de groupes tels Arcade Fire, Malajube, Patrick Watson, Les Georges Leningrad et The Dears, également en nomination au GAMIQ. Le GAMIQ est la cérémonie de prix officielle de la scène alternative musicale du Québec et récompense les meilleures productions indépendantes de l’année. Le GAMIQ et le Montreal International Music Initiative (MIMI) se sont récemment associés afin de créer l’Association de la Musique Indépendante du Québec (AMIQ). Le gala aura lieu le dimanche 16 septembre au Métropolis de Montréal. The Banjo Consorsium est le seul groupe de la scène locale sherbrookoise en nomination au GAMIQ. Il s’agit d’un événement exceptionnel qui souligne la qualité de cette formation qui sera en spectacle ce jeudi 19 juillet au Divan Orange de Montréal et le mercredi 12 septembre au théâtre Centennial de Sherbrooke. 9.12 Records is pleased to welcome to it's growing family, another talented and emerging Canadian artist - anne sulikowski a.k.a.... Using computers and mostly analogue synthesis, pedals and good old fashion layering, sulikowski blends and layers drone, ambient fragments combined with synth pop into a unique lexicon of digital sound. ...this really is my musical diary. it contains emotions i have felt, tells stories of things that have happened to me, it explores my fears and makes my dreams into a reality. In a way I have created a musical fairy tale of my life....and i rather like it better that way. i've always been somewhat of a strange girl. caught inbetween this life of fragile reality and an ever expanding dreamstate. in 2000, i started to noodle seriously with electronics as a solo composer and since then i have learned to document both daily events and extraordinary circumstances with music as my medium. I have written music about pretty much everything i think about, of memories lost and recovered, of my heartache and distaste for the social conditions of the world. ...my favorite instrument of all time is of corse the synthesizer. i have used many boards these past 7 years, both analogue and digital, and i have always prefered the roland jp 8000. it sounds divine, and, its easy to use, especially in the live setting. i like this board so much i have 2 of them. ...this is always a tough questions. i have been influenced and have loved many musical projects. i have been involved in community radio since i was 18 years old and have heard many wonderful music.....from noise to flamenco. however if i had to go on a trip and i had to choose 5 projects to go along with me they would be : stereolab, casino versus japan, flying saucer attack, sonic youth and Yo la tengo. i especially like Kin Gordon from Sonic Youth. ...under the name of bulding castles i have released 13 albums. i have also recorded under the name psychosomatic climax machine and recorded 3 releases. 1 release under the name proximal:distal. i have also recorded with numerous project. to mention a few loathing robots, love puppets, unknown birds sing, with Pauline Nadrgny (lodz), a pretty sonic splatter, phases and EXPWY. i am currently focused on working musically with APJIW. If you had an album to propose to someone who would like to discover your music, which one will you choose and why ? this is such a tough questions. my most emotionally charged album is the secret doctrine which i wrote about my poor father who died of cancer february 11 2006. i miss him more than anything in the world and i have never been the same since i have watched him die. to be honest i cant even listen to those songs without crying. ...i have never worked harder at anything than these new songs. they are filled with a childlike quality, but the lyrics and concepts are deep. this is my most revealing of all compositions.

Ce n'est pas à tous les jours qu'un groupe reçoit ses fans dans son propre loft du centre-ville de Sherbrooke pour une représentation secrète et toute spéciale. Projections visuelles réalisées par Mata, peintures à l'huile et DJ Matt était au rendez-vous pour agrémenter la soirée autour d'une bonne Tremblay. Les chansons Talk about you, Kwartet, Tuesday cracker et Burning feet étaient au rendez-vous. La plus belle surprise a certainement été l'interprétation de la chanson inédite "Rocky" tout fraîchement sortie du studio. Les membres du groupe ont réalisé un coup de génie en montant la pièce en un temps records. ...En - Secret show at the Loft by Jean-François Mercier It is not every day that a group receives fans in their own downtown loft in Sherbrooke for a secret show. ... Oil-base paintings and DJ Matt were also there to decorate the evening around great vibes and a good Tremblay beer. ...The songs - Talk about you, Kwartet, Tuesday Cracker and Burning Feet played for the happiness of the fans. The most beautiful surprise was certainly the interpretation of their new song "Rocky", recently released from the studio. The secret show will remain engraved in our memories only to be echoed by an encore.

Signes avant-coureurs (article tiré du VOIR) Par Élise Giguère (VOIR) Joseph Arthur fait partie de la programmation du Off-Fête du lac. L'été est à nos portes; il y a des signes qui ne trompent pas! J'ai en mains mon carton d'invitation pour le dévoilement de la programmation de la Fête du Lac. C'est le 29 mai, dans le cadre du 5 à 7 le plus couru à Sherbrooke, qu'on saura tout de cette grande fête, qui se tient du 9 au 15 juillet. L'organisation du OFF-Fête du Lac a aussi levé le voile sur sa programmation. L'événement passe de quatre à sept soirs, déménage au Téléphone Rouge et reçoit des artistes tels que Joseph Arthur et We Are Wolves sans oublier de faire place à la scène locale avec des noms comme The Banjo Consorsium et Jake and the Leprechauns. La mi-juillet sera bien chargée!

Mes nouvelles coqueluches Par Élise Giguère The Banjo Consorsium, samedi au Petit Théâtre. Ma découverte de la scène locale est jalonnée de coups de coeur. J'en ai vécu un autre, samedi soir, au show de Banjo Consorsium. C'était au Petit Théâtre de Sherbrooke, et si j'avais émis des doutes quant au choix de la salle, je m'en repens aujourd'hui. Dans l'ambiance intimiste du lieu, la musique instrumentale du band pouvait s'apprécier dans toute sa richesse. Le public était à l'écoute et fort réceptif. Dans ma rangée, même quand je ne tapais pas des pieds ou des mains, mon banc vibrait au rythme de l'entrain de mes voisins! Un show qui se retrouvera sans aucun doute dans mon top 5 de l'année.

Par un petit jeudi matin pluvieux, Jacques-Philippe Lemieux Leblanc nous accueille chez lui, dans l'un des plus beaux lofts du centre-ville de Sherbrooke. C'est dans ce décor de briques, de bois franc et de meubles disparates, où trône un piano à queue, une panoplie d'instruments et même une balançoire, qu'est né le Banjo Consorsium. ...À la fin de 2005, l'organisatrice de la série Actualisez-vous, Ève-Marie Roy, entend parler du fait que Jacques-Philippe, opérateur de machinerie depuis 11 ans à l'American Biltrite, compose de la musique durant ses temps libres. ...Grâce aux ramifications de la Toile et à l'esprit de communauté qui règne sur le site MySpace, Jacques-Philippe diffuse sa musique folk-électronique aux quatre coins du monde. ...Clou de cette effervescente reconnaissance internationale, l'organisation du Iceland Airwaves Festival, qui a accueilli Patrick Watson et Wolf Parade à sa dernière édition, s'est montrée fort intéressée par The Banjo Consorsium. ...Sur A Turning One, qu'on peut entre autres se procurer sur iTunes et bluetracks.ca, Jacques-Philippe Lemieux Leblanc joue presque tous les instruments, à quelques exceptions près. ...Lors de ses premières prestations, le groupe a fait face à la complexité des arrangements et s'est quelque peu perdu dans le dédale d'instruments (banjo, mandoline, slide guitar, lapsteel électrique, accordéon, piano rhodes, xylophone, pour ne nommer que ceux-là.) ...C'est que plutôt que de s'échiner à déchiffrer des partitions, il les apprenait à l'oreille et profitait des temps de répétition pour composer des "petites tounes". Au secondaire, il passe d'abord par le collège Mont-Sainte-Anne, où il commence la guitare sous les enseignements d'une prof avec laquelle il ne se sent aucune affinité. ... Le reste de son secondaire à Mitchell-Montcalm, où il suit des cours de piano, complétera sa formation musicale, qu'il poursuit depuis en autodidacte. Sa job à l'usine lui permettant de gagner un bon salaire et de revenir à la maison l'esprit tranquille, Jacques profite de ses temps libres pour créer de la musique et l'enregistrer dans le petit studio qu'il s'est monté progressivement.
